History of R&L

R& L Archery was established as a retail shop in Barre in 1979, by Rick and Leslie Sanborn, as a part time business in our home. It has been located at East Street, Tremont Street, and the top of Trow Hill. It was moved to South Main St. in 1995 when the archery shop became a full time business. And we expanded once more in 2002 when we erected our own building on Smith St. We now offer 11 20 yard indoor shooting lanes, and interactive video system (AIS), and paper tuning services for both field points and broadheads. The retail part of the store currently encompasses 4000 square feet, with the lanes offering another 3000 square feet of space.

The business today is run by Rick and son Chris. Chris has been a familiar face at the shop since the age of 12.

We can replace or rebuild most cable systems on bows, custom strings and harnesses are available.

Our goal is to insure that each shooter is properly fitted to their bow and that accessories are properly installed and adjusted.

In addition to being an archery pro shop we also sell muzzleloaders, paintball equipment, and firearms and supplies.

At R&L Archery, Inc. we offer a number of services outside of our sales and warranty repair. We have indoor 20 yard shooting lanes as well as the AIS TechnoHunt system. Our lanes allow our customers to try bows out before they buy one to ensure the bow feels good and fits right. During the Winter and Spring months we offer indoor leagues. Our leagues consist of weekly 20 yard spot shoots and on the TechnoHunt system.

We also promote and encourage better shooting and hunting techniques by offering such programs as the International Bowhunter Education Course, turkey hunting seminars (our past speakers include; Matt Morett from HS Strut, and Chris Kirby from Quaker Boy game calls.), and deer hunting seminars.

We also host an after school archery program for local kids, and members of our staff are registered as merit badge counselors for the Boy Scouts of America's Archery merit badge.

As time goes on we continue to expand without loosing our basic fundamentals as an archery pro shop. We have since expanded to become a central location for most hunting supplies, not just those that apply to bowhunting. Most recently we have added a fly fishing department. Through this we also offer fly tying lessons.

Since 1983 We have been actively involved the Vermont Legislature on issues related to bowhunting. We have played a key role in the addition of a second deer tag for the archery deer season, as well as sponsoring a bill that lengthened the bow season.
